German definition of green steel

The standard, developed by the German steel industry association WV Stahl and the country’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate, was launched at the Hannover Messe on April 22. The LESS certification enables the comparison of emissions from traditional blast furnaces and electric arc furnaces during the transition to hydrogen-based production. The certificate classifies steel according to carbon intensity and scrap content, with the support of independent certification bodies such as TÜV Nord and DNV.
