Record prices for scrap metal – From waste to sought-after resource
Scrap iron, one of the most widely used metals globally, is now being paid at 1–3 SEK/kg, depending on quality and volume. This price increase reflects increased demand in the construction and automotive industries.
Copper prices have reached new highs and are now around SEK 60–80/kg. Copper is an important metal in the electrical and electronics industry. Aluminum scrap is valued at between SEK 10 and 20/kg, while lead is paid at SEK 7–15/kg. Stainless steel is in the price range of SEK 15–25/kg.
Brass scrap is now paid at 40–60 SEK/kg, which is significant for a metal that is often used in pipe fittings and decorative applications.
Electronic scrap is a varying category where prices can range between 0 and 10 SEK/kg, depending on the content of valuable metals such as gold, silver and palladium.
This development underscores the importance of viewing scrap as a valuable resource rather than waste, with significant economic incentives for recycling and reusing metals.
